Accessibility Statement for Welcome to Fife

This accessibility statement applies to the Welcome to Fife website - www.welcometofife.com - which is run by the Welcome to Fife team at Fife Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website and are committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, including people with disabilities. Preparation of this Accessibility Statement

In addition to Scottish Government testing, our web developer Everyone has undertaken extensive testing to ensure the site is accessible which has informed the preparation of this statement. This statement was prepared on 17th July 2025 and is based on the Government sample accessibility statement.

Compliance Status

This website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA Standard by the Scottish Government.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

How accessible this website is

We have taken several steps to improve accessibility and inclusivity:

  • Mobile-Responsive Design (WCAG 2.4.7)
    The website automatically adjusts to different screen sizes and device types (mobile, tablet, desktop) to maintain ease of navigation and readability.
  • Accessible Font (WCAG SC)
    We use the Lexend typeface across the site—a font scientifically designed to improve reading performance for users with dyslexia and other reading challenges.
  • Keyboard Navigation (WCAG 2.1.1)
    All interactive elements, menus, and forms are fully accessible using a keyboard alone, supporting users who rely on assistive technologies.
  • Colour Contrast & Readability (WCAG 1.4.3)
    We’ve applied a strong colour contrast between foreground text and background colours. Text over images also meets minimum contrast ratios for clarity.
  • Clear Site Structure (WCAG 4.1.2)
    Our navigation and content structure is intuitive and consistent, making it easier to find information and interact with the site.

Non-accessible Content

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

While we have made significant progress, we know some parts of this website are not fully accessible and the below content does not meet current accessibility standards.

  • Alternative Text (ALT) - Some images do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access this information. This applies mainly to third party images uploaded by businesses. Although we are working on steps to improve this over the next few months, there will be images that do not meet accessibility standards. All new images uploaded will include a mandatory Alt tag.
  • Third-party Content - Some external systems and embedded content may not yet fully meet WCAG 2.2 standards. We are working with partners and vendors to improve this.
  • Cookie banner - For users of PC we are aware of an issue, but this is a small percentage of users. On a PC zoomed in at 200% the tabbed index moves the order of the cookie pop-up to the end of the tabbed content.
